BLEXIT's HBCU tour happens as Black colleges face ongoing security threats, creating tense campus environment
BLEXIT, a Turning Point USA group now led by Charlie Kirk''s organization after his death in Sept. 2025, visited Howard University during homecoming weekend on Oct. 26, 2025 as part of their "Educate to Liberate" HBCU tour. The visit drew mixed reactions with some students opposed and others engaged. BLEXIT seeks to persuade Black voters to leave the Democratic Party. The visit occurred amid ongoing bomb threats at HBCUs that began after Kirk''s death, though a shooting near Howard during homecoming (5 injured, 17-year-old arrested Nov. 14) was a separate incident.
Students increased security and many opposed the visit as "pointless" and "starting drama."
BLEXIT, a Turning Point USA group originally founded by Candace Owens and now led by
Charlie Kirk's organization, visited Howard University during homecoming weekend on Oct. 26, 2025. The visit was part of their Educate to Liberate HBCU tour that also included Bowie State University.
Charlie Kirk died in Sept. 2025. After his death, bomb threats began targeting HBCUs across the country. The threats continued through the fall semester. The connection between Kirk's death and the HBCU bomb threats hasn't been officially established but the timing is notable.
The BLEXIT visit to Howard drew mixed reactions. Some students opposed the visit while others engaged with the group. Students organized increased security for the event. Many students told reporters the visit was pointless and accused BLEXIT of starting drama on campus.
A shooting near Howard during homecoming weekend injured 5 people. A 17-year-old was arrested Nov. 14 in connection with the shooting. This was a separate incident unrelated to the BLEXIT visit but contributed to security concerns during homecoming.
BLEXIT's stated mission is to persuade Black voters to leave the Democratic Party. The group argues that Democratic policies have harmed Black communities. Critics say BLEXIT is a front for white conservative interests seeking to divide Black political power.
