Bipartisan Kids Online Safety Act gives Trump FTC power to censor media

On June 24, 2025, Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) reintroduced the Kids Online Safety Act.

The bill has the support of 63 U.S. senators, giving it bipartisan backing.

Under KOSA, the Federal Trade Commission would enforce a ‘‘duty of care’’ requirement allowing it to force platforms to remove content deemed ‘‘harmful to minors.’’

KOSA would preempt stronger state privacy laws in California and Illinois, replacing them with a weaker national standard.

More than 2,000 advocates delivered letters to Congress warning that KOSA’s vague standards could suppress LGBTQ resources and other content for marginalized youth.
