Boston becomes testing ground for Trump's expanded deportation machine

ICE's Operation Patriot in May 2025 produced 1,461 arrests across Massachusetts, according to ICE's Jun. 2, 2025 release.

DHS and ICE say Patriot 2.0 began in early Sep. 2025; DHS reported the operation 'launched on Sep. 6, 2025.'.

ICE and local reporters disagree on criminal-history shares for the May arrests. ICE said 790 had criminal charges or convictions. Local reporting found different breakdowns, including reporting that 17% had convictions and 46% had no record. Do not cite a 73% 'no convictions' figure without a primary source.

The Department of Justice filed a civil lawsuit against the City of Boston and the Trust Act on Sep. 4, 2025, asking a federal court to enjoin the ordinance. The suit cites Supremacy Clause concerns.
