UAE contributes $500M as international community mobilizes aid
The U.S. State Department announced $200 million in humanitarian assistance for Sudan in early February 2026, drawn from a $2 billion humanitarian aid basket established in December 2025.
The funds are part of a larger Sudan Humanitarian Fund jointly administered with the United Nations and the UAE, which mobilized $700 million total. The UAE contributed $500 million.
Sudan has been in active war since April 2023 between the Sudanese military and Rapid Support Forces paramilitary, with over 40,000 documented deaths and the actual toll likely much higher.
Over 14 million people have been displaced by the war, making it the world's largest displacement crisis. Famine has been declared in multiple regions.
International coordination through UN mechanisms and the UAE partnership shows how multilateral aid operates in active war zones.
